Read MoreI made it home to Portland after walking around Almaty, Kazakhstan for several days. For some reason I didn't have high hopes for Kazakhstan, but I actually enjoyed it... and no one really acts like Borat.
This is the Sunday Store Update, where I share some brief news about the business side of AONC.
Read MoreFor a few months I used this image as my laptop background. Why do you do the things you do? is always a good question to ask yourself, whether in business or in life. This is the Sunday Store Update, where I write about the business side of AONC. Earlier this week I had the quietest product launch in world AONC history. A few weeks beforehand, we took over the internet with a barrage of announcements and reviews for the Empire Building Kit.
Two months ago, the Empire Building Kit launched out into the world. Thirty days later, we did it again, in one crazy launch with 30+ partners. Today, it's going out again -- once and for all. As of today, the EBK will be permanently available on UnconventionalGuides.com. Empire building for everyone! Yay.

I made it back to America after the latest Round-the-World journey. People sometimes ask how jet lag affects me as I roam from continent to continent. Here's the general rule, Twitter-style:
Jet lag day 1 = zzzz. Day 2 = worst day! Day 3 = don't fall asleep! Day 4 = almost normal.Read More
I don't claim to be an expert, but I've been writing 1,000 words a day almost every day for the past 120 weeks. That's the most important tip of all—to be a writer, start writing. You'll figure out a lot of things along the way.
But for all of you overachievers out there, here are some other ideas that may help.
Read MoreI recently met with a guy who's trying to become a motivational speaker. He's a good guy with good things to say. But the thing is ... how should I put it ... the whole motivational speaker branding doesn't give a good first impression. It's old-school at the best of times, and just plain awkward the rest of the time ...
Read MoreGreetings from Frankfurt airport... or actually the skies between Europe and Africa, as I should be southbound to Equatorial Guinea when this goes out. Let the record show I'm in the back of the Lufthansa aircraft on this trip, with a bonus “wait-on-the-plane-an-extra-two-hours” stopover in Abuja. Sometimes even travel ninjas go long-haul Economy Class, when no upgrades are available.

Read MoreGreetings from the home base in Portland, Oregon. I've got a big French press filled to the brim with Stumptown coffee, and I'm settling in for a long day in front of the MacBook.
And ... the Empire Building Kit has now returned! (Insert your preferred trumpet blast here.)

Read MoreI recorded this short video while on vacation at the Oregon coast a couple weeks ago. It's all about strategy vs. tactics -- and why changing the world is more important than which email program you use. Every day I talk with people about building something. Building a blog, a business, an empire, whatever. I've noticed that most of the questions I hear are all about logistics and tactical decisions: which shopping cart? Should I use Wordpress? How do you host the images? And so on ...
Read MoreGreetings from Vancouver, British Columbia—a place I'm starting to enjoy more and more every time I pass through. I'm just here in transit again, but it's nice to be back regardless.
This is the Sunday Store Update. If you're new here, I use this time to share some brief news about the business side of AONC.
Read MoreA few notes on our very busy day here:
1. If you're traveling on Amtrak at some point, I recommend the blueberry pancakes for breakfast.
2. Thanks for all the birthday congratulations. You guys are great.
3. A reader told me about the Bottomless Cup coffee shop in Havre, Montana. We have 25 minutes in Havre this afternoon and I'm going to try to make a mad latte dash. If I don't make it back in time, J.D.'s in charge!
4. Oh, and the Empire Building Kit has been flying off the shelves! Holy cow.
Read MoreWhat, you didn't know that Luciano Pavarotti was huge on Twitter? Oh yes. Or at least, he could have been. See, every day I talk with various people about their projects. Inevitably, I hear a lot of questions that are rooted in this premise:
"How can people give me their attention?"
In other words: “How can I get more for myself?” The more in question varies: interest, customers, website traffic, subscribers, money, whatever—but it always relates to an increase in focus on the individual.
Read MoreGreetings from Managua, Nicaragua. I began my latest trip as scheduled and am slowly working my way towards Europe, trying to ignore the news about the big British Airways strike because there's nothing I can do about it. If I close my eyes it will go away, right?
Read MoreIt all started when I was feeling overwhelmed in the development of Empire Building Kit, my biggest business project of the year.
I've been working hard on it for weeks, but with all the material I'm putting in, I could see it would need more time.
I'veThen I started making plans for the big trip I'm starting later tonight. I'll be in Central America this weekend, enjoying cheese empanadas and café con leche while working from the road. Then, I'm going across the Atlantic for visits to the Ukraine, Cyprus, and Cape Verde. On the way back I stop off in Pittsburgh for a talk before continuing home.
