The Conventional Christmas, Part II

Downtown Redmond - December 2008

For those of you who celebrate it (I do), here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas.

I am quite happy to be far away from home, missing the storm of the decade in the Pacific Northwest. Instead, I’m hanging out with the family, trying to avoid the unnecessary obligations while embracing the good ones.

It seems that I’m better at writing when I’m off on a real adventure than when spending a fairly conventional Christmas here in the U.S. – but aside from that, all is well.

On Friday I’ll post a travel update with all the countries I made it to in 2008, and over the next few weeks you’ll begin to see more of the site changes we’ve been working on for a long time. It’s going to be good.

Assuming the Eritrean embassy decides to cooperate (they have had my passport for nearly two months now without issuing a visa), I’ll be headed to Northeast Africa in a couple of weeks, where I should continue to be safe from freak snowstorms.

Thank you all for reading. I hope you’re having fun wherever you are.

Merry Christmas.

Two months without a passport? I don’t travel nearly as much as you do, but I would not want to be without my passport for more than a week. In fact, so far my policy has been that if I can’t go get the Visa in person, I won’t visit the country. That might not work in the long term, but I probably will avoid any country that needs that much time to decide whether I am worthy of entering it. Or it could be (another) reason to start working on that dual citizenship thing 😉

Anyway, happy holidays and thanks for all the interesting posts!

Well, I have a duplicate passport, so technically they have my second one. I do not usually send my main off to random embassies or consulates whenever possible. If they don’t come through, I’ll still be able to travel, but it will create a big headache in trying to change the flight out of Eritrea.
