Giveaway: Business Class Upgrade On American Airlines

Every Friday is giveaway day. Comment to win!

4087342130_235c423593_z

Did someone say upgrade? I believe it was us—and this week you can win a Business Class upgrade on any long-haul American Airlines flight!

As mentioned, a while back I took a 14-hour flight to Hong Kong, and when I got off the plane I was a millionaire—at least in miles. Upon achieving my status of two million flight miles with American Airlines, they gifted me an extra two systemwide upgrades (known as EVIPs for those who care).

I doubt I’ll be able to use both of them myself, and they can’t be sold—so I’m giving one away. Want to fly in the front?

What you need to know:

  • This offer will upgrade up to three segments on one long-haul ticket booked and operated by American Airlines (codeshare partners won’t count)
  • You can use it whenever you want before February 29, 2016
  • This giveaway is available to readers worldwide. Anyone can win!
  • Our cats and biased judges will pick someone on Sunday night at 6pm PST

Enter this week’s giveaway by posting a comment, then check back on Sunday night. We’ll announce the winner and hook them up with the upgrade!

Update: Comments are now closed. Congrats to Bev, selected by cats and a random number generator to win the Business Class Upgrade! Everyone else, thanks for entering. We’ll have another giveaway soon.

I would LOVE to win this! American is my preferred airline (trying to earn status with my business travel!). I have the opportunity to go to Alaska with some friends this summer, a true once-in-a-lifetime experience for this Pittsburgh girl! An upgrade on that long flight would certainly be a special treat – I’ve never flown business class or first class before (and certainly would never be able to afford to on my own right now!)

  • Mel H says:

Heading to Chile from Dallas in order to practice Spanish for 3 months and an upgrade to Business Class would be sweet for the 10 hour flight..

  • Patrick says:

Congrats on crossing 2 million miles! I am working at 1 million and it seems so far away! I’m traveling more than ever, and putting most of that travel on AA long haul flights. I certainly wouldn’t mind figuring out how to operate the bed function on my next AA flight. =) Congrats again Chris!

  • Ann says:

What a fun concept (giveaway Fridays) and what a perfect giveaway in alignment with all that you share via blog & philosophy! An opportunity for others to “upgrade” in thinking and purpose! Cheers!

  • Max says:

Congratulations, Chris! 14-hour is a long flight which I do ~16 times a year. But Hong Kong is a nice city to visit. Do you have businesses in Shanghai or Beijing, two cities AA also serves?

  • theresa J says:

    I would love this

  • Audrey says:

Ooh- a nice long trip up front? Yes, please!

  • Alain says:

I’m in! Never been upgraded before so it would be great to give it a try!

  • Pauline says:

I booked a flight on American Airlines to Rio in May – an upgrade would be SO NICE!

  • Kris says:

What an accomplishment! I’ll take that upgrade 🙂

  • Jonathan Dolezal says:

Chris just wanted to say you helped me see life differently. Before finding out about your blog I never had big dreams to travel. I was focused on training and playing soccer in the United States. Once I realized my Dad was born in England which would allow me to potentially get a UK passport I jumped on the opportunity this past summer to apply. I got the passport this past summer which opened up doors for me to work and stay 90+ days in European countries. I spent all summer traveling and then jumped on an opportunity to play soccer in Denmark (I am currently here until the end of June) none of which I would have considered without hearing the unconventional stories and ways to travel cheaply and effectively to see the world. You have shown me the path to a new world and I have dreams to hit 25 countries by the age of 25. I am currently around 12-13 and I have a year and half before I turn 25 to achieve this goal. I would love a chance to be able to use your upgrade on a journey to visit more countries before turning 25. Thank you for your ability to inspire people to travel and see the world, but also for helping us to become the best versions of ourself through your posts about gratitude and goal-setting (i used your template to establish my goals in 10 categories for this upcoming year). I look forward to the possible chance to use a systemwide upgrade in the future and congratulations on your accomplishment.

  • João says:

That’s sweet! I would like to win this one! I like to move it!

This is an awesome giveaway. Also working on a new blog, it’s still in early stages but would love to hear feedback if anyone wants to offer some http://habitualhumans.com

  • Raquel says:

I’m working on gathering miles to surprise my boyfriend with a trip to New Zealand! Double surprise would be to be upgraded to business class!! 🙂 Super inspired by your travels, blog and hacking advice! Gracias and enhorabuena in reaching 2 million miles!!

  • Marc says:

We have a trip planned to Rome for a Med cruise in February next year. Business class upgrades would be really sweet!

  • Hanneke says:

I guess everyone really deserves it.
This is why I would like a little try. I moved to Canada for work. I am from the Netherlands and most of my family lives there. My son lives in the US and my daughter lives in Nicaragua.
    There….enough said.

  • Josh H says:

Hi Chris, I’d love a systemwide upgrade. I’m traveling heavily now, but can’t get the girlfriend in the same cabin just yet. Like many here, I visited the site to learn more about travel hacking and was inspired to do what I really want. In the past 4 years, I’ve become a consultant, traveled and made money at the same time, built a popular blog, and found a great job that lets me travel to new places—for free 🙂 I’d like to share this more with the ones I love and get them up front too. Thanks!

  • Tim W says:

I’m planning some travel and would love to take advantage of system wide upgrades on AA!

  • Megan @ Semi-Charmed Kind of Life says:

I’m starting a year of travel and adventure in April – an upgrade sounds like HEAVEN!

  • Kevin L. says:

I’m saving up my miles to take my mom back to HK in October to celebrate her 60th birthday. Currently I only have enough miles to fly her on biz class one way, but it would be nice to have her celebrate this milestone for both leg of the flight. This is a lady who’ve never flown biz/first or even step foot in an airport lounge!

  • Bianca says:

I’ve never been upgraded before, and this would be a great way to use my Aadvantage miles on my upcoming RTW trip with my husband. Thanks!

  • Heinrich says:

Oh please, oh please, oh please… Always religiously read all these blogs about business class upgrades, all jealous and envious. Maybe I’ll be getting lucky once too 🙂

  • Jonathan says:

    Woo-hoo! Put me down, please! (I’m not a cat…)

  • Laura says:

So I don’t need an upgrade, but my husband does. He already entered, and I’m playing the part of a loving partner and entering as well. =) Jokes aside, what a great giveaway this week!

  • Jennifer says:

How generous – most people guard their upgrades with their lives!

  • Matthew Butler says:

    In for one!!

  • Jackie says:

Not one, but TWO million miles. That is insane! Congrats on that milestone (ba da bump)!!! Love reading the blog from travel hacking to thoughtful musings and rewarding your readers with this little nugget.

  • John says:

I took my 83 year old mother to Rio de Janeiro three years ago and she fell in love with the country and people. She said it changed her life. She told me 6 months ago that the one place she wanted to go back to was Brazil before she is unable to travel. I bought tickets and got her upgraded to business for the way down, but am unable to get her confirmed for the trip back on the 22nd of February this month. She has a hard time sleeping in airplanes, so i always try and get her upgraded. The upgrade would be used for her.

  • Everybody Hates A Tourist says:

I’d love to use this on a trip to Europe in the fall! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Élan says:

I would absolutely love to win this for an Asia trip I have coming up. I can never sleep on the plane–I’d love to see if business class was any different. Awesome giveaway, Chris!

    Congratulations on the miles milestone!

  • Matt says:

Yes! Waiting patiently for my AA mileage stock to be replenished when Dividend Miles merge in…

  • David Mccoll says:

Great giveaway! I would love this! A loyal UK aadvantage member living in Bolivia so would make for a nicer than usual trip home during the year!

  • Donna McGovern says:

    Dear Chris and Team
What a great way to pay it forward and thank you for the opportunity to submit.
I have learned so much in the past 2 years following your steps with credit cards and points. My credit score has gone up because of it, so thanks for that.
I would love to be considered for the upgrade. I have been working really hard to pay all my bills each month so I don’t have any more debt, (became debt free a few years ago), started my new company so I can dictate how my life goes and I help care for my aunt financially and emotionally, who developed dementia. I continue to do work to empower others and myself.
What a treat would it be to be upgraded and allow myself to enjoy this incredible experience AND I could cross off Australia off my bucket list!!!!

  • Sean says:

    I love cats.

  • Nick Danforth says:

My wife and I are going to be flying back to the USA from Asia sometime in April and would absolutely love to upgrade!

  • Tom M says:

Your advice has allowed me to take advantage of incredible travel hacking opportunities, including your most recent card offer.

As a result, I am poised to make some awesome travel plans this summer. I would live to be able to fly in true style on the way

  • Tim C says:

This whole travel hacking thing is cool. I’d love to get an upgrade like this.

  • Breck says:

I am a nurse getting ready to fly to Tanzania this April to fulfill requirements for a Masters of Science in Global Community Development. Then I am off to get an international internship. I can hardly wait to begin this new adventure, and hopefully, make a difference in the world somewhere along the way. I am thankful I stumbled upon your blog last week. It gives me courage to know that I am not alone in my desire to not live a cookie cutter life. Don’t stop blogging!!

  • Sarah M says:

I don’t have any plans to go anywhere soon, but I would LOVE to gift this to my best friend who lives half-way around the world, and is coming back Stateside for her wedding this year. This would be her ‘cherry on top’!

  • Brian says:

You can count on me to handle it with care, Chris.

  • Lincoln says:

I’d like to go get fat learning to make pasta with my siblings in Italy this fall!

  • YAM says:

My now-husband left a beautiful land and home, a well-paying job with supportive colleagues in a successful company he admires… to marry and live with me.
The transition has been hard for him, it took him a while to find a job in this very different environment. The one he found requires that he travel far and wide, often in the dreaded middle seat with awful connections (thank you, company travel agent!). It is sometimes more than 36 hours from saying goodbye to getting the phone call: I just arrived at the hotel.
I would like nothing more than to get his ticket upgraded so just once he will not have a throbbing soldier (biking injury) or hips or….

  • Miya p says:

Wow, free flight upgrade wouldn’t that be nice. I’m going on my first solo adventure this December, all over the Americas and bringing only one carry on. It’s a sort of self imposed minimalist exile. Being so low budget it’s almost no budget, this would be so lovely, just that little bit of luxury…

  • tiffany l says:

    awesome giveaway, thanks!

  • Kirsten says:

Trying to get to all 7 continents before my 40th. I have seven months to make it to Australia and Antarctica. This sure would make it more pleasant!

  • Andrew says:

    Oooh, pick me! Pick me!

  • Ben Brown says:

I’d love to use the pass on an upcoming flight from Germany to the US!

  • Christine Cohn says:

    Congrats Millionaire Chris!
I would be thrilled to have your extra upgrade. I’ve had Business but never First Class on long hauls! Real sleep and more productive time the next day. A true luxury! Thank you !!

  • Martin Baker says:

If it looks like the B&W photo at the top, then count me in. Can’t beat a plane with a couch.

  • Cindy James says:

I am a crazy Canadian and often use American to route through the US on my way to my adventures. Tomorrow I hope to qualify for the inaugural Remote Year group – 100 people working remotely together – 12 different countries across one year June to June. I am sure a business class ticket would come in handy! Thanks for sharing your tickets! Pay it forward right?

  • Darren Kittleson says:

Cool idea and thank you. I’d love the upgrade as I’m heading to Kilimanjaro in December to crest the mountain on my 50th birthday. I’ve never done anything like this and would love to comfortably fly there and back. Thanks for your consideration and the offer!

  • Steve Ramanauskas says:

Great contest– your international fans love a giveaway with worldwide eligibility

  • Lee says:

Looking forward to head to South America in September from Asia, an additional upgrade would be great! Thanks a lot for the courtesy!

  • Annie Bannister says:

Reasons why I should win an Upgrade include:

Everyone else in BC will be happy it isn’t a child in the seat
I could treat my 78 year old mom to an experience she has always dreamed of (while I dream from coach class!)
I use up one of the segments provided just getting to a city from which AA flies international
I have no status on AA so my normal seats are in the last row of the plane….an upgrade would get me there sooner 😉

Seriously, what a nice offer you are making. There should be more people like you in our world.

  • Travis says:

What would it take to bribe the cats to rule in my favor? Are they more Friskies or Fancy Feast lovers?

  • Dan G says:

This would be sweet on my next flight to Europe!
    Nice offer!
    Thank you Chris!

  • Thomas Bennett says:

This would make for an excellent birthday gift 🙂

  • Dan says:

Any chance to get peanuts in a bowl, not a bag (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/02/12/world/asia/korean-air-nut-rage-verdict/) would be welcome!

  • Kevin says:

Taking my wife and baby boy to the UK and would love to give her the upgrade!

  • Caio says:

I want to visit my family in South America and a good seat wouldn’t hurt at all! =)

  • Tom says:

Thanks for the contest, Chris. I’ve been using UpgradeUnlocked and the other tips you recommend on AONC to get upgrades and “Fly High”. I just unlocked Marriott Platinum with a challenge, and am looking for the best airline to unlock elite status with next!

  • Jason says:

I’ve got several TATL R/Ts on american this year, so an upgrade would be great.

  • Ryan says:

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for all you do! I wish I spoke cat! I’d love to give this as a gift to my wife on an upcoming journey, but regardless, thanks for being such a help!

  • Derek says:

I have a pretty large mileage run including a DFW-HKG return to get US Airways Chairman’s Preferred and if would be most amazing to do so in great comfort. Thank you for offering your upgrade to us readers!

  • Michael Naud says:

Lifetime platinum status is amazing. And with us airways now in the mix, so many other options to use and earn.

Good luck with the upgrade. When I made 2 million I wasn’t able to use mine. I should have at least given them away.

  • Jim Crosby says:

Hey! This would be an awesome addition to the international travel I have coming up this summer. Business class home from Spain (that’s when I will be tired and most appreciative) would be super. And I like AA. They beat heck out of Delta.

  • Ashlea Wheeler says:

Ooh pick me pick me! I have an American Airlines flight booked from Cusco to Portland (will be arriving just in time for WDS in July!) and would love an upgrade to ease pain of such a ridiculously long and painful journey, which consists of 3 flights / 2 transits. Ergh, so not looking forward to it.

  • Ed Cyr says:

CG – There is no better way to fly than Business or First Class. Everyone who ever flies needs to experience this luxury at least once.
Congrats on the 2 million mile mark with AA!
With that being said, giving away an upgrade is a class act. This would be a great start to a RTW trip.

  • Nick says:

Living in the US with an Australian wife can have its benefits. Hearing Crodile Dundee lines repeated to you, hoping dingos didn’t REALLY eat their babies and in laws being far away. Sure would be nice to score some brownie points and get them an upgrade to come over. Or just use it for myself, er, wife…
