Professional Listening
If you’re trying to figure out what you’re good at, or trying to start a business for the first time, there’s a simple strategy that will help.
Start by listening.
Pay attention to what people ask you about. Chances are, there’s something you’re good at that other people want to learn.
Gary Leff, profiled in my upcoming book, never knew that people would pay money for him to manage their Frequent Flyer accounts … but at least once a day, he books an award for someone and earns a $250 fee.
Brett Kelly, also in the book, wasn’t sure that people would pay to learn how to use a software program that was free … but as he listened, he kept hearing the same questions over and over. He put together a comprehensive solution that contained all the answers, and now earns more than $150,000 a year from this “side project.”
There are business models and opportunities all around you.
Pay attention!
